Aptec Holdings gets Microsoft OEM distribution for Gulf
Aptec Holdings, one of the largest technology distributors in the Middle East, Turkey & Africa, has expanded its distribution agreement with Microsoft to include Gulf region for Microsoft OEM products. Aptec was an authorized distributor for Microsoft OEM previously only for the UAE.
Aptec plans to expand the current Channel and recruit new partners for Microsoft OEM in the Gulf region to further gain market share. With the presence of Aptec with other products and solutions, distributing Microsoft OEM will add a significant opportunity to the reseller community in the region. The new distribution agreement authorizes Aptec to sell Microsoft OEM in Bahrain, Qatar, Oman & Kuwait, with previous held markets. Aptec already has Microsoft Volume License distributor for the Gulf.
XpertLearning Partners with Microsoft to Provide Online Training to Imagine Cup Gulf Finalists

Imagine Cup Gulf 2010: Your Winners!
Recently teams from around the Gulf arrived to the Atlantis Hotel, Dubai to compete in the Imagine Cup Gulf 2010 Regional Finals. They had the chance to interact with other teams through team building activities, presentation skills training and were given the time to work on their project. On the big competition day, they presented their software design innovations in front of a panel of judges. Teams had ideas ranging from entrepreneurial websites, recycling innovations, traffic solutions, to health applications. See all the pictures here.
The top 4 teams will be heading to Warsaw, Poland in July to represent their country in the Worldwide Imagine Cup Finals. ITA joins Microsoft’s security co-operation programme
The Information Technology Authority (ITA) of Oman yesterday signed an agreement with Microsoft Oman to join its Security Co-operation Program (SCP). Through the agreement, ITA Oman and Microsoft aim to promote the security of information systems and networks in the Sultanate and to exchange information to assist in that effort. The Security Co-operation Programme is a no-fee programme that helps further strengthen Microsoft’s comprehensive approach to providing the technology and services that help enable secure computing environments to governments and citizens.
In addition, ITA Oman and Microsoft will work together to exchange information that can be used to better anticipate, help prevent and respond to information technology security attacks. The kind of data that will be exchanged include, information about publicly known and reported vulnerabilities, information about upcoming and released security updates to facilitate resource planning and deployment, security incident metrics, information on Microsoft product security, the Microsoft approach to security and its incident response process.

Microsoft Oman hosts ‘DigiGirlz Day’
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Microsoft Oman hosted its “Microsoft DigiGirlz Day” for the first time in the Sultanate. The event, which was hosted at the campus of the Middle East College of Information Technology (MECIT), one of the premiere academic institutions in the field of information technology, with a vision to inspire creative minds. The aim of the event is to increase the engagement of female students with technology within an educational framework and was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the academic community. Microsoft also hopes that this initiative will encourage more young women to pursue degrees and careers in computer science and computer engineering, with the ultimate goal of narrowing the gender gap in the industry.
Over 110 female students from grades 9-12 participated at this year’s event. During the event, a panel discussion was held where students had the opportunity to interact with women employed in the technology industry to gain exposure on careers in business and technology and to get an inside look at what it is like to work at Microsoft. In addition, two students from Umamaha School and one from Wadi Kabir School were the winners of the Digital Literacy competition held during the event.
Addressing the event, Suleiman Al Kindi, Deputy General Director of Information Technology from the Ministry of Education said, “The Microsoft DigiGirlz event is in line with the Ministry’s efforts to reach out to high school girls and increase female participation in the Science and Technology field. By hosting an event such as DigiGirlz, we aim to empower students to build successful careers for themselves and educate them on technology. DigiGirlz is an example of our strong partnership with Microsoft and we look forward to a continuous long-term association with them to inspire more females in the region to choose a science and technology based career.”
Microsoft Oman Previews New Technologies at Comex 2010
Microsoft Oman recently previewed a suite of its latest technologies including Office 2010, SQL Server 20008, Visio 2010 and Project 2010. The company’s new offerings were showcased to customers and partners at Comex, the largest telecom and technology show in the Sultanate of Oman.

Imagine Cup – Top 10 teams from the Gulf and their innovative ideas!
Over the past few months, students from across the Gulf have been applying their passion, creativity and imagination to help solve the world’s toughest problems by using technology. The proposals rolled in from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and the UAE in great numbers.
At this point, Microsoft Gulf present to you the top 10 teams from the Gulf and their innovative ideas! They will be arriving to Dubai on May 1 to work as teams and receive training. The projects will be presented to a panel of judges on May 3 to determine the top team per country to be sent to the world wide finals during July in Warsaw, Poland.

Microsoft Gulf expands partnership with ITE Distribution
Microsoft Gulf today announced its development with ITE, one of the leading regional IT distribution companies, to include Microsoft Commercial products such as Microsoft Windows, Office, and other commercial product suites available developed by Microsoft.
Previously, ITE’s Microsoft product offering included leading PC hardware such as Microsoft gaming devices, keyboards, mice, webcams, and headsets, as well as the highly demanded, Microsoft Mac Office. The Dubai based ITE will be responsible for distributing in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain.

ITWorx announces the launch of the SharePoint based second Asian Beach Games Muscat 2010 portal
ITWorx, a leading software professional services organization in the Middle East, announced the successful delivery and launch of the 2nd Asian Beach Games Muscat 2010 portal. Sanctioned by the Olympic Council of Asia, the Asian Beach Games is a multi-sport event held every two years.
The 2nd Asian Beach Games Muscat 2010 will be held in Muscat, Oman from 8-16 December and is the country’s largest-ever international sporting event. The Games will celebrate sporting and cultural diversity from across Asia while embracing Omani heritage and values.
The Muscat Asian Beach Games portal was built by ITWorx on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, an integrated suite of server capabilities that improve organizational effectiveness by providing comprehensive content management and enterprise search, accelerating shared business processes, and facilitating information-sharing for better business insight. The SharePoint collaboration and content management server provides the event’s organizers with tools needed for server administration, application extensibility, and interoperability.
Microsoft Oman backs Comex 2010
Committed to providing innovative technology products and services to the country’s fast growing ICT market, Microsoft Oman signs on as a lead sponsor of Comex 2010, the largest IT, telecom and technology show in the Sultanate of Oman. A four-day ICT extravaganza, Comex 2010 will be held from April 26 to 30, 2010 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre, whilst the two-day ICT Conference will be organised from April 27 to 28 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Seeb.
