Microsoft Oman backs Comex 2010

Committed to providing innovative technology products and services to the country’s fast growing ICT market, Microsoft Oman signs on as a lead sponsor of Comex 2010, the largest IT, telecom and technology show in the Sultanate of Oman. A four-day ICT extravaganza, Comex 2010 will be held from April 26 to 30, 2010 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre, whilst the two-day ICT Conference will be organised from April 27 to 28 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Seeb.

Nick Hodge, Managing Director of OITE, the event organiser, said ”The support of Microsoft Oman has been a big boost to the Sultanate’s ICT event. As organisers, we are delighted with Microsoft’s continuous support to Comex which helps sustain the growth and development of the ICT sector.”

Wave of New Microsoft Enterprise Products Showcased at Tech.Ed Middle East

Microsoft Gulf showcased its next generation of infrastructure and application platform products at Tech.Ed Middle East 2010 including Internet Explorer (IE) 9; Microsoft Office 2010; SQL Server 2008 R2; Visual Studio 2010 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Together with its partners in the region such as Dell, Intel, HP and AMD, Microsoft leveraged Tech.Ed to demonstrate a slew of advanced technology offerings to IT professionals, developers, partners and customers.

Charbel Fakhoury, General Manager, Microsoft Gulf said, “The essence of Tech.Ed is to showcase our current and future offerings and what makes them the most powerful platforms that businesses today are looking for to achieve significant productivity and efficiency gains along with a dynamic technology infrastructure. Microsoft also announced the launch of two new offers for Visual Studio customers looking to upgrade to the 2010 version. The first offer enables customers who purchased Visual Studio 2005 or 2008 Standard Edition to upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 (without any level of MSDN) at the previous Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition USD $299 retail price. This offer will be available for six months, starting April 12, 2010.

Etisalat supports Microsoft Gulf Tech.Ed Middle East 2010 as strategic ICT partner

Etisalat announced its partnership with Microsoft Gulf for Tech.Ed Middle East 2010 as a Strategic ICT partner. Set to run from March 1st -3rd, 2010 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Tech.Ed is Microsoft’s premier technical education and networking event held across 10 global locations. At the event, Etisalat will showcase its comprehensive end to end ICT and Managed Telecom product portfolio.

Etisalat and Microsoft are collaborating on emerging technologies to create compelling solutions for customers by sharing and reviewing respective product roadmaps. UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade Opts for Windows 7 to Enhance Operational Efficiencies

Microsoft Gulf today announced that the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade has implemented Windows 7 to enhance internal user productivity and streamline and simplify daily operations. The implementation of Microsoft’s new operating system also allows the Ministry to have a secure and reliable operating system while giving them the advantage of Windows 7 enhanced functionality and user interface.

The Windows 7 solution enables the Ministry’s IT staff to streamline deployment processes; deliver desktop services more efficiently and significantly reduce the cost of supporting PC users. These capabilities are enabled by a broad array of new and improved Windows 7 features. In addition, the Ministry expects to use Windows 7 power management capabilities to significantly reduce the electrical power consumed by PCs.

“The Ministry of Foreign Trade is responsible for the regulation of foreign trade policies so we need to ensure that we use state-of-the art technology that provides advanced corporate data management and security and improves best practices”, said H.E Mr. Ali Al-Hameli, Executive Director of Institutional Services Support, Ministry of Foreign Trade for the United Arab Emirates. “Windows 7 was the most obvious choice for its feature rich functionality and ability to deliver and manage user experiences and applications while increasing technological efficiency within the organization at reduced costs. Union of Arab ICT Association Honors Microsoft Gulf with ‘Best Arab Corporate Social Responsibility Award’ of the Year

As recognition for its commitment to empowering women with technology, Microsoft Gulf received the ‘Best Arab Corporate Social Responsibility Award’ of the Year from the Union of Arab ICT Association, IJMA3. The Arab GoldenChip Awards recognize the top organizations in the region who have contributed to the development of ICT in the Arab world.

Aiming to harness ICT towards the fulfillment of critical regional economic-development challenges, IJMA3, an international non-governmental/profit organization presented the award to Microsoft for its overall Citizenship program and its significant contribution in empowering women through programs such as the Women in Technology (WIT) across the MENA region. The WIT program helps equip women with business and technology skills and encourages them to participate in today’s global workforce and gain economic independence. By 2010, WIT will train more than 10,000 low to middle income women in underserved communities across the MENA region.
