Qatar Foundation signs strategic partnership agreement with Microsoft

Furthering its commitment to the development of knowledge based society in Qatar, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and Microsoft signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at a press conference in Doha, Qatar. The MoU was signed between Executive Director of Operations, Qatar Foundation Mr. Khalid Al-Sulaiteen and Mr. Mohammad Hammoudi, Country Manager for Microsoft Qatar.

Under the agreement, Qatar Foundation will benefit from a 90% discount on the commercial prices of Microsoft software licenses as well as software assurance benefits such as free online training on the software purchased. In addition, Microsoft will provide professional-level developer and design tools to students under its DreamSpark program to support and advance their skills. Schools and universities at Education City will also be able to benefit from Microsoft’s Live@edu, a cloud based service, which will provide students, staff and faculty with primary email addresses and a collaborative communications platform.

MoE of Palestine and Microsoft enhance ICT at public schools and educational institutions by deploying Live@Edu services

The Ministry of Education (MoE) of Palestine and Microsoft Corporation announced today a partnership to deploy Microsoft’s free Live@Edu services across all K-12 public schools and educational institutions in Palestine. This comes as part of the efforts of both parties to enhance the education system in Palestine through the increased adoption and use of technology in schools.

Her Excellency Mrs. Lamis Al Alami, Minister of Education of Palestine, stated, ”It is our responsibility to enhance the quality of education in Palestine by embedding ICT into public schools and educational institutions and supporting innovative teaching methods. Our main objective is to encourage public schools and educational institutions in Palestine to move towards a 21st century digital campus and we believe that this agreement with Microsoft will help us to achieve that objective. With Live@Edu students will have access to the latest Microsoft technologies that will enable them to not only increase their usage of IT in class projects, but will also help them develop the right skill sets for when they go to university and ultimately join the work force.”

Live@edu is a program that Microsoft released to help students with their study. Students now can share whatever they have with each others and with their instructors, which saves time and increases efficiency!

Microsoft Jordan Honors Students using Live@Edu at the Jordan University of Science and Technology & Yarmouk University

Microsoft Jordan held two events this week at Yarmouk University and the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) to honor students from both educational institutions who actively participated in Microsoft’s Live@Edu campaign, using the software company’s hosted suite of services to increase productivity and efficiency through online communication and collaboration.

Rula Ammuri, Microsoft Jordan Country Manager stated, “Live@Edu is a free suite of hosted Microsoft services and applications that work with the investments universities and students have already made in IT. The objective is to help students increase online communication and collaboration across campuses whether they are working on assignments and projects, exchanging and storing information, sharing documents, engaging in discussions or various other activities that will enhance and facilitate education.”

The Live@Edu suite includes various collaboration services and communications tools as well as mobile, desktop and web-based applications and storage capabilities. Some of the applications included are Office Live Workspace, Windows Live SkyDrive, Windows Live Spaces, Microsoft Outlook Live, Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Alerts.

Oman’s Ministry of Education links students, parents and teachers to Microsoft’s Live@edu portal

Furthering its commitment to the development of a knowledge based society in Oman, Microsoft announced that the Oman Ministry of Education has deployed its Live@edu online offering across schools in the Sultanate. Live@edu is a free hosted service for K-12 and higher education institutions that provides students, staff and faculty with primary email addresses and a collaborative communications platform.

The Oman Ministry of Education first provisioned its teachers and administrators with e-mail, and soon after began providing the service to its more than 50,000 students. In addition, the Ministry is also taking advantage of other elements of the Live@edu suite of collaboration and productivity solutions including Windows Live SkyDrive, a cloud based file storage service that provides each user with 25 gigabytes of storage and Windows Live Messenger, for real-time messaging.

Commenting on the deployment, Khalid bin Sulaiman Al-Siyabi, Director General of IT, Ministry of Education from the Oman Ministry of Education, said, “As part of Oman’s continuing commitment to education, we wanted to integrate electronic communication into our schools. Our aim is to provide students with the highest levels of technical and professional training programs to give them the best opportunities once they graduate. An important part of that vision is creating an advanced learning environment across our campuses, by adopting solutions such as Microsoft Live@edu that integrates the power of technology with our curriculum. We have a strong relationship with Microsoft, and we look forward to our long-term association with them to help the Ministry realize our vision of providing high-quality education.”

Microsoft Gulf announces participation at Gulf education event

Microsoft Gulf announced that it will showcase its latest academic software at GESS 2010 (Gulf Educational Supplies and Solutions), the Middle East’s premier educational supply and solutions event. The technology vendor’s presence at the event is in line with its efforts to provide access to high-quality education experiences through technology.

GESS 2010 takes place from February 23-25 2010 in which Microsoft will showcase a wide range of its educational offerings including new solutions such as Microsoft Office Academic Toolkit; Microsoft Learning Gateway and the already popular live@edu. Microsoft has designed its educational software to allow students to collaborate both on and off campus and become motivated by learning experiences they can relate to and which will help them compete successfully in today’s global economy.
