Aptec Holdings gets Microsoft OEM distribution for Gulf

Aptec Holdings, one of the largest technology distributors in the Middle East, Turkey & Africa, has expanded its distribution agreement with Microsoft to include Gulf region for Microsoft OEM products. Aptec was an authorized distributor for Microsoft OEM previously only for the UAE.

Aptec plans to expand the current Channel and recruit new partners for Microsoft OEM in the Gulf region to further gain market share. With the presence of Aptec with other products and solutions, distributing Microsoft OEM will add a significant opportunity to the reseller community in the region. The new distribution agreement authorizes Aptec to sell Microsoft OEM in Bahrain, Qatar, Oman & Kuwait, with previous held markets. Aptec already has Microsoft Volume License distributor for the Gulf.

Microsoft Kuwait hosts Exclusive Ghabka for VIP's and Government Officials

Microsoft Kuwait celebrates the holy month of Ramadan and recently hosted an exclusive Ghabka for local media, VIP’s, government officials, educators and students at the Sheraton Hotel in Kuwait. At the event, Microsoft Kuwait took the opportunity to recognise key students and teachers from Kuwait University and American University of Kuwait (AUK). The Ghabka was attended by Wael Al Sagar, Chairman, A.H Al Sagar & Bros and Microsoft representative in Kuwait.

Ehab Mostafa, Country Manager, Microsoft Kuwait presented certificates to 23 computer science students and teachers of Kuwait University for their outstanding contribution towards the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Arabization content project organized by Microsoft in July 2010. Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, is a technology advanced programming language used by developers to develop console and graphical user interface applications.

Tell us who you are?
Howdy, I’m Saleh Nabeel Alsaffar from Kuwait and I’m a student at the Computer Engineering Department of Kuwait University. I should be graduated by the time this interview is published. I’ve been an MSP at Kuwait University for 2 years now and I love programming and developing applications. Actually, it is one of my hobbies since I was a kid.

Tell us about your University?
Kuwait University was founded on 1966 and consist of several colleges, one of them is the College of Engineering and Petroleum (established by 1974) which is the one I’m admitted to. The college compromised of seven departments which are: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial and Systems Management Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Architecture. All those seven departments are accredited by ABET.

Tell us about your MSP history, when were you awarded?
Joined the MSP program when I got invited by Microsoft and Dr. Thalaya Alfozan to the MSP Boot Camp in Dubai on 21st November 2008. It is there where I realized the awesomeness of the MSP role for students and the opportunity for me to be in touch with Microsoft and my fellow colleagues.

Imagine Cup Gulf 2010: Your Winners!

Recently teams from around the Gulf arrived to the Atlantis Hotel, Dubai to compete in the Imagine Cup Gulf 2010 Regional Finals. They had the chance to interact with other teams through team building activities, presentation skills training and were given the time to work on their project. On the big competition day, they presented their software design innovations in front of a panel of judges. Teams had ideas ranging from entrepreneurial websites, recycling innovations, traffic solutions, to health applications. See all the pictures here.

The top 4 teams will be heading to Warsaw, Poland in July to represent their country in the Worldwide Imagine Cup Finals. Microsoft’s Partner Academy Program Concludes in Kuwait

Microsoft concluded the first part of its Gulf Partner Academy Program in Kuwait. Microsoft Partner Academy is a global training program that aims to provide technical, marketing and business development skills to Microsoft’s Gulf partner community and focuses on strengthening partner readiness to help them identify new business opportunities on current and future Microsoft products. The 2010 edition of the Gulf Partner Academy Program trained 15 partners in Kuwait.

Commenting on the importance of the Gulf Partner Academy Program, Ehab Mostafa, Country Manager for Microsoft in Kuwait said, “Having a good network of solutions partners is the key to successful outreach to our customers and we need to ensure that these partners are kept updated on the latest Microsoft technologies. Over the past few months, students from across the Gulf have been applying their passion, creativity and imagination to help solve the world’s toughest problems by using technology. The proposals rolled in from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and the UAE in great numbers.

At this point, Microsoft Gulf present to you the top 10 teams from the Gulf and their innovative ideas! They will be arriving to Dubai on May 1 to work as teams and receive training. The projects will be presented to a panel of judges on May 3 to determine the top team per country to be sent to the world wide finals during July in Warsaw, Poland.

Microsoft shares technology best practices with Kuwaiti government

Microsoft Kuwait announced its commitment to promote good government practices through the use of technology. The company said in a press release on the occasion of concluding a workshop for senior technology executives from the Kuwaiti government in cooperation with the Central Agency for Information Technology, that a “series of presentations was made by Microsoft that demonstrated how technology can help improve performance within the Kuwait eGovernment framework thereby leading to improved governance practices.”

Microsoft Kuwait Manager Ehab Mostafa said that “The Kuwait Government has been a visionary in the development of the country’s technology infrastructure. Microsoft is committed to working with governments to promote innovation and growth through technology solutions and partnerships that create economic and social opportunities.”

Deputy Director General for Central Agency for Information, Qusai Al-Shatti said “the workshop was very informative, it has helped us understand the future technology trends and the new technologies that Microsoft is working on.” “There are challenges, especially in the government sector, when it comes to technology readiness and the culture of change. This workshop has given us a view into the next generation of government services. This will help us plan ahead on how we can boost productivity and improve governance,” he said.

Microsoft Gulf expands partnership with ITE Distribution

Microsoft Gulf today announced its development with ITE, one of the leading regional IT distribution companies, to include Microsoft Commercial products such as Microsoft Windows, Office, and other commercial product suites available developed by Microsoft.

Previously, ITE’s Microsoft product offering included leading PC hardware such as Microsoft gaming devices, keyboards, mice, webcams, and headsets, as well as the highly demanded, Microsoft Mac Office. The Dubai based ITE will be responsible for distributing in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain.

“ITE Distribution’s clear understanding of the retail industry has expanded our reach and assisted in our channel expansion and growth.
