Meet Faizan Baloch – MSP from Institute of Business Management, Pakistan

Tell us who you are?
My name is Faizan Baloch. I’m an MBA (final year) student, having a background of Computer Sciences. I’m from Karachi – Pakistan. I have a passion to play with technology and marketing. I’m an MSP of Institute of Business Management (IoBM) and under this designation I work like a communication channel between Microsoft Pakistan and IoBM (CBM). I have also worked on a couple of IT and Marketing projects. I’m also founder of an INETA chartered user group – CBM.net; which is an online meeting place for sharing technology related news with IoBM students. My main focus is to bridge the gap between ‘Business’ domain and ‘IT’ domain because both the entities can not survive if left alone.
Tell us about your University?
I’m student of Institute of Business Management (IoBM) Karachi – Pakistan which is also known as College of Business Management (CBM). It offers bachelor and master level graduate degree programs with majors in Accounting, Finance, HRM, Marketing, MIS, Supply Chain Management, Health Management, Industrial Engineering, Advertising etc. IoBM started its operations in 1995 as a small institution with a big hope and zeal. Over the years it has grown into a powerhouse amongst the reputed and best business schools in Pakistan. The driving force behind this was the leadership of the most experienced academic staff, dedicated professors and the continued support of the business community. The standards at IoBM are such that in 2005 the Higher Education Commission awarded her a 4-Star University status, which tells tales about the milestones achieved by this prestigious institution. IoBM is also Microsoft strategic alliance partner.
Tell us about your MSP history, when were you awarded?
I came across to work with team Microsoft at various Microsoft events in 2007 and at that time I served as an usher and I was actually the second in command (after MSP of my institute at that time) in conducting activities in coordination with team Microsoft. This way I got to know what MSP does ? and this way Microsoft came to know about my potential and when the MSP of that time (prior to me) got done with her tenure – she then recommended my name to our HOD who knew me as I was already running a society called Club-IT at my campus under his guidance, and it was March 2008 when my name was recommended for the MSP’ship to Microsoft by my HOD.
What do you do in order to keep up with latest tools and technologies while focusing on your education?
In order to get abreast of the latest tools and technologies – I regularly browse and read technology and business related blogs which provide me with a handful of information as what’s IN and what’s OUT. Plus, I also remain very keen to attend technology related talks, seminars, meetings, sessions which are being conducted by Microsoft at Microsoft Innovation Center Pakistan.
