I’m Osama A. Tamimi 21 years old from Jerusalem, studying in Jordan; it’s my 4th year / Computer engineering, the MSP at Jordan University of Science and Technology, Interested in networks administration; MCSA/CCNA certified and looking forward to achieving more

Tell us about your University?
It’s Jordan University of science and technology (JUST) located in Irbed at the north of the country, Founded on 1986, Includes more than 20,000 student from 48 different nationalities, one of the best universities in Jordan and in the Arab world, focuses on Engineering and information technology , has a great IT faculty with five departments (Computer Engineering , Networks & security Engineering , Software Engineering , Computer Information systems , Computer science) .

Tell us about your MSP history, when were you awarded?
I was awarded on November 2009.

What do you do in order to keep up with latest tools and technologies while focusing on your education?
Keep in touch with Microsoft communities (like Jordev , JITpros) and their activities and events in Jordan and in the region .

What does being an MSP mean to you? and What makes you a great MSP?
Really it’s my pleasure to be a part of Microsoft family, being an MSP makes you involved in a great professional community over the world, which is very nice!

Tell us about faculty support in promoting tools and technologies?
Actually my faculty spends a lot of its budget in providing us with modern labs equipped with the latest tools and technologies , there are “free labs” that you can work in anytime and there are “internal labs” related to the curriculum courses , also ; my faculty supports and appreciates the extracurricular activities and encourages the students to be creative and gives them chances for that .

If you could ask Steve Ballmer one question about Microsoft, what would it be?
Maybe I would ask him about the open source! ,I see a kind of war between Microsoft and Open source systems (unfortunately), how can we bridge the gap and make the relation friendly a little bit ?

Had a chance to attend “MSP Summit”? When and how was your experience?
Unfortunately I hadn’t .

Who are your top 5 MSP’s from your country? and why?
Actually we are 14 MSPs in Jordan , and we are one family

What you think about the MSP’s role in promoting technology at your campus?
Basically, The MSP is responsible of Microsoft programs like Imagine Cup , DreamSpark , Live@edu , which are very useful, and here lies the role of MSP ; to increase the awareness of such programs between the students and keep them in touch with the latest Microsoft technologies .

What is the best thing that has happened since you have become a MSP?
The best ever thing is having a great friends over the entire world from your IT field.

If there was one place you could travel to, right now, where would it be and why?
I want to travel to the Silicon Valley to get an internship in networks administration: D

How can one be a part of MSP Club? Any suggestions for them?
To be a passion for technology !, attend Microsoft events and follow Microsoft user groups activities in your country ,doing voluntary work , helping your friends and promoting technology at your campus .

What are your future plans?
I’m planning to get the Microsoft Certified Trainer certificate (I hope ) by the end of next summer semester after finishing the MCITP course that I’m taking now , then to get an internship somewhere related to my field ; that prepares me to the market .

What two or three accomplishments have given you the most satisfaction? Why?

• Being an MSP! , It’s really a great honor to represent Microsoft at your university and between your friends ,also you meet different kind of people over the world (IT professionals , developers , MSPs , Employers )
• Being MCSA/CCNA certified ; the IT certificates bridge the gap between the theory and the industry which is very important , and being certified while you are attending a college makes you very satisfied

• Michael Hinckley – After ten plus years of developing and managing e-learning projects I have found myself in the unique position to drive the innovation at an enterprise level using knowledge management tools and social media. My current title is Instructor at Citibank, although training delivery is one aspect of what I do, most of my job and interests included knowledge/content management, efficiencies projects and how they can be effectively distributed. This path has led me to SharePoint as the medium to deliver customized solutions. Tell us who you are?
My name is Valdis Iljuconoks. I come from Latvia – small but promising country in Easter Europe besides Baltic Sea. I’m almost 30 years old and working in software development company – Nexum Insurance Technologies – which is providing software and services for insurance and financial market.

Tell us about your MVP history, when were you first awarded?
Currently it’s second time I’m rewarded as a MVP. First nomination was at 2009 January.

What do you do in order to keep up with latest tools and technologies?
I’m actively reading blogs and searching for latest information on IT industry. I do take participation of some internal mailing lists and do have some regular chat with local industry experts as well.

What does being an MVP mean to you?
It’s an honor to me to be an MVP. One thing is that being an MVP it means to access some internals of Microsoft and to be able to get some news and take some participation in stuff that other is going to use after some time. However it also means kind of some status within community and people I talk to.

What do you do when you are not building software’s?
I do some photography, skating and playing around with my children.

Had a chance to attend “MVP Global Summit”? When and how was your experience?
Yes, I had one. It was on 2009 March. Overall feeling and excitement was terrific. It was the first time I was there – over the ocean. Atmosphere and community spirit was great and also people were great – all concerned about the same thing: how to help community to easier understand and use great Microsoft products.

What makes you a great MVP?
I try to be as best as I can by helping mostly academic audience to understand and to improve processes and everyday tasks by using Microsoft products.

What you think about the MVP’s role in promoting technology in your region?
I think it’s one of the best ways to spread around about Microsoft and all those great tools inside.

What is in your computer bag?
Notebook itself , wireless mouse, wireless presenter, earphones and a pen with some sheets of paper to do quick and fast scratching on interesting subject.

Who are your top 5 favorite MVPs?
Joe Albahari.

If you get a chance to suggest one conference in your region? What would it be and why?
Conference should contain topics on TFS and its everyday usage in software company. Conference should contain HOL as well as this style of presentation is more acceptable and understandable by human – to touch a technology by themselves.

What is the best thing that has happened since you have become an MVP?
I met plenty of great people.

Which was the last book you read?
If we are looking at technical subject – “Introducing F#”. In general – “Secret”.

If there was one place you could travel to, right now, where would it be and why?
Far East always attracted me. Burma (Myanmar) would the destination most probably as it’s one of the “tourist-left-out” countries with beautiful landscapes and ancient architecture.

Hold and use that one tiny magic power inside you – passion.

The new Smart business solutions line includes Smart Board interactive whiteboards, Smart Board interactive whiteboard systems and collaboration software, including Smart Meeting Pro 2.0 collaboration software and Smart Bridgit 4.0 conferencing software.

The range of Smart Board interactive whiteboard models ships with Smart Meeting Pro. Smart Board interactive whiteboard systems include a Smart Board interactive whiteboard with integrated projector and either Smart Meeting Pro or a collaboration appliance. Smart business solutions provide easy and immediate access to data and applications, enabling meeting participants to review files, share information and save and distribute their work to all team members. The components of Smart business solutions integrate easily, so users can create a solution that truly meets their needs – whether they want to upgrade their meeting rooms from flipcharts and dry-erase whiteboards or connect people in several locations in real time.

Smart Board interactive whiteboard systems include both widescreen (16:10) and standard (4:3) interactive whiteboards with integrated projectors. For meeting spaces that already have a dedicated computer, users can choose an interactive whiteboard system that includes Smart Meeting Pro. For meeting rooms without a dedicated computer, users can choose an interactive whiteboard system that includes a collaboration appliance, which enables users to create, share and distribute digital notes without the need for a computer.

Business users also have the option to choose a premium system that includes Smart Meeting Pro Premium collaboration platform (Microsoft Windows operating system only) and is configured for Smart Bridgit server software. Smart Bridgit conferencing software enables local and remote users to collaborate and share data on their Smart Board interactive whiteboards and laptops in real time, regardless of location. Notes and annotations can easily be captured and e-mailed to attendees, lowering printing costs and reducing environmental impact. Using Smart Bridgit conferencing software reduces travel requirements, lowers costs, increases productivity in meetings and enables people to collaborate more efficiently. Smart business upgrade kits will be available to existing users of the Smart Board 680 and Smart Board 685 interactive whiteboard systems in March and include a fixed wall mount, USB speakers and either Smart Meeting Pro or a collaboration appliance.

“Online collaboration in the business world is very PC-centric and, as a result, knowledge workers have been somewhat constrained by the keyboard-and-mouse-only model,” said Alan Greenberg, senior analyst and partner at Wainhouse Research. “Changes in technology are enabling new, more natural and open ways for business people to collaborate, brainstorm and do better work in group settings – Smart Technologies is continuing to respond to the needs of the market with this announcement.”

“In today’s complex business environment, organisations require easy-to-use, integrated tools that facilitate collaboration and help teams make the most of their meeting time,” said Nancy Knowlton, Smart’s CEO. “The new Smart business solutions will enable organisations to create more engaging meeting spaces, increase productivity and make information sharing simple and efficient.”

Smart business solutions features:

• Smart Board interactive whiteboard – Includes a Smart Board interactive whiteboard with Smart Meeting Pro software.
• Smart Board interactive whiteboard system – Includes a Smart Board interactive whiteboard, short-throw or ultra-short-throw projector and either Smart Meeting Pro software or a collaboration appliance.
• Smart business upgrade kit – Includes Smart Meeting Pro or a collaboration appliance with a fixed wall mount and USB speakers to retrofit SB680 and SB685 Smart Board interactive whiteboards.

Smart Bridgit 4.0 conferencing software new features:

• Smart Scheduler – Allows the Smart Bridgit server to integrate with Microsoft Exchange Server and Outlook clients to schedule and book recurring Smart Bridgit meetings.
• Bridgit Global Server Network (GSN) – Multilocation networking provides increased scalability and improved support for a multisite Smart Bridgit server deployment and optimises WAN bandwidth.
• Multiple display sharing – Enables meeting presenter to share multiple displays with local and remote participants.
• Integrated webcam support – Enables Smart Bridgit software to support an increased number of simultaneous webcam streams.

Microsoft Jordan hosted a training workshop for 150 of its customers and partners on the increasing importance of effective and integrated business intelligence (BI) solutions that will help drive better decision making across organizations and government institutions, resulting in improved IT skills, reduced costs and enhanced business performance. The training workshop was exclusively sponsored by four Microsoft Partners that include STS, BEAT, ElixirSoft and Estarta.

The workshop was delivered by strategic consultant Rafal Lukawiecki who presented the attendees with training on what is required to deliver state-of-the-art reporting, analytic and performance management solutions using Microsoft BI. Lukawiecki, a frequent and popular speaker at Microsoft’s global events over the last 12 years, is a specialist in analyzing and forecasting trends in the field of Information Technology, BI, statistics, data mining, security and IT architecture.

Mrs. Rula Ammuri, Country Manager for Microsoft Jordan, stated, “Rafal is a world renowned specialist in the field of BI and this workshop was a good opportunity for our customers and partners in Amman to benefit from his expertise.”

Microsoft BI is powered by Microsoft SQL Server and delivered through Microsoft 2007 Office interface, which provides Microsoft’s customers with the ability to build and deploy robust BI applications for everyone throughout the company, while keeping costs under control. The training event in Amman is part of a road show that Rafal Lukawiecki is conducting across the MEA region.

The longer battery life doesn’t come at the expense of speed, though, as the Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 ULV 1.3GHz processor, paired with up to 4GB DDR2 memory, doubles the performance of a netbook fitted with an Atom CPU while consuming 60% less power than a normal CPU. A standard 8-cell battery allows consumers to use it for up to 10.5 hours between charges; enough for a long flight or an entire day of working on the road. The LG T380 is a road warrior’s dream, as the slim design measures only 25mm thick and tips the scales at a scant 1.89kg.

In light of this, we believe that the LG T380 is at the forefront of notebook design and engineering, and helps LG cement its position as a leader in the mobile computing industry.”

The LG T380’s 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen LCD boasts a 16:9 aspect ratio running at a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It offers a smooth, clear display for high-definition (HD) content including movies, games, and video conferences. The LG T380 ships with Microsoft Windows 7, which also offers faster performance than Windows Vista OS.

The LG T380’s stylish exterior will appeal to even the most fashion-conscious consumer. The vertical lines and groove pattern on the lid offers a luxurious look and feel, while the touchpad features hidden lighting and tactile feedback. The soft-touch keyboard is also comfortable for long sessions in front of a word processor. The LG T380 is available in a range of colors to suit individual tastes, including espresso black and neon orange.

The LG T380 also packs a range of useful features including a 1.3-megapixel webcam with the You-Cam viewer for video chatting and conferencing, and SRS TruSurround HD sound for rich audio. An e-SATA port and a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connector are included for when the LG T380 is desk-bound. In addition, LG’s Smart Pack software suite, comprising Smart On, Smart Indicator, Smart Recovery and Smart Care helps boot the computer quickly and helps keep the machine running at peak efficiency.

The LG T380, one of the LG’s flagship notebooks, and will be available across the UAE by the end of March.
