Furthering its commitment to transform Kuwait into knowledge based society, Microsoft announced that it has signed the Partners in Learning agreement with the Ministry of Education in Kuwait for technical co-operation. The signing of the agreement is driven by the need for technology education and infrastructure in Kuwait as the program recognizes the educational value of technology in schools and is designed to foster digital inclusion. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the Undersecretary of the Kuwait Ministry of Education, Tamather Al Sidirawi, and Country Manager, Microsoft Kuwait Ehab Mostafa.

Under the Partners in Learning initiative, the Ministry of Education will receive technology training, tailored curriculum development, access to the latest technologies and the ability to empower schools to raise the levels of ICT literacy. It also enables innovative teaching with the aim of bridging the digital divide.

Commenting on the agreement, Tamather Al Sidirawi, Undersecretary of the Kuwait Ministry of Education for resources and services, said, “The agreement with Microsoft comes in line with improving the standard of education by using the best tools available to develop education and training. That will help transform Kuwait into a successful knowledge-based society. Putting technology to work for people throughout the country will enable us to strengthen our economy and create greater opportunities for young people to fulfill their dreams. We value Microsoft’s support as we take positive steps towards becoming a truly digital society.”

Tamather Al Sidirawi also explained that the cooperation pact aims for establishing a school society that will be equipped with the latest educational technologies that comply with the visions and ambitions of Kuwait.

Charbel Fakhoury, General Manager, Microsoft Gulf, said, “Microsoft is honoured to partner with the Ministry of Education in Kuwait as we remain committed to socio-economic development and accelerating the evolution of a knowledge-based society. We commend the Ministry’s ambitious vision of using technology to improve education and enhance IT skills development that will enable citizens to compete in today’s global economy. Together with the Ministry of Education, we hope to make a positive impact on the education sector in the country by using ICT as a tool to empower students and teachers and transform education.”

Ehab Mostafa, Country Manager, Microsoft Kuwait, added, “We welcome the opportunity to work with the Ministry of Education and empower students to use ICT in their day to day learning and prepare them for life and work in the 21st century. Together, we aim to empower youth across the country through IT skills development that will enable them to compete in today’s global economy.”

Partners in Learning is designed to actively increase access to technology and improve its use in learning. The goal of the program is to help schools gain better access to technology, foster innovative approaches to pedagogy and teacher professional development and provide education leaders with the tools to envision, implement and manage change.

The three program areas under the Partners in Learning agreement that will help students and teachers move beyond the traditional learning models include:

  • Innovative Schools: Providing schools, governments and partners with resources, training, expertise and technology blueprints that help create schools to better prepare students for life and work in the 21st century;
  • Innovative Teachers: Providing teachers with tools, forums and resources that build communities of practice, support collaboration and access to quality content, and challenge educators to integrate ICT into teaching and learning in a meaningful way;
  • Innovative Students: Empowering students to use ICT in their schoolwork and learning and email accounts for each student.
